It is expected that Chancellor George Osborne will take further action in his raid on child benefit.
At the Conservative Party Conference on monday, Mr Osborne already announced that higher rate British taxpayers would no longer receive child support. Now it seems likely that he will also succeed in lowering the age at which children still receive benefit from 18 to 16. In reaction to the complaints by angry mothers and Conservative supporters, First Secretary of State William Hague commented that the current deficit "is a situation we have to deal with".
